Now, railway stations in Odisha to comply with fire safety norms

Bhubaneswar: Keeping in mind the safety of rail passengers, the State Level Security Committee for Railways under the chairmanship of DGP BK Sharma today decided to direct all railway stations in the State to get fire safety certificate positively.

After an audit by the Fire Department, the railway stations will obtain the fire safety certificate under the Odisha Fire Prevention and Safety Rules 2017.

Speaking to media persons following the second meeting of SLSCR, the Odisha DGP said the Railway Protection Force has devised a composite security plan for five major stations of the State to ensure installation of fool proof security measures and the GRP will help in executing the same.

Also, railway authorities have agreed to install more baggage scanners and CCTVs at major stations. Verification of antecedents of vendors and hawkers will be carried out. Security of railway tracks, platforms and enhanced security of trains were also discussed in the meeting, he added.

Railway ADG Pranabindu Acharya said as safety of passengers is top priority. Proper lightning at the railway stations and safety awareness through display screens will be taken up at the railway stations, he added.

Boundary wall at all the stations will be constructed to stop unauthorized access.
