The Board of Directors of NTPC has accorded investment approval for the (2×800 MW) Darlipali Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Sundargarh district at an estimated cost of Rs. 12532.44 crore subject to environmental clearance of Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF), according to sources.

The STPP requires over 1600 acres of land, NTPC said in a statement.

“We have received both land and environment clearance for the project. There is a positive development on forest clearance as well. Hopefully, we will complete the project in five years,” NTPC chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Arup Roy Choudhury had said earlier.

NTPC has got coal linkage for the project from Dulanga coal block, which has a capacity to supply seven million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal to the project.

The PSU major has a current installed generation capacity is 42,454 MW. The company plans to add about 20,000 MW by 2017.

It has about 1,500 MW of hydro power capacity under construction and operates about 4,000 MW of gas-based power plants in the country.
