Odia girl selected for Antarctica expedition programme on climate change

Rourkela: Nibedita Biswal from Odisha’s Rourkela has been selected as an official participant for the 2041 ClimateForce Antarctica Expedition-2021.

Nibedita is among 90 participants from across the world who will participate in 2041 ClimateForce’s “Leadership on the Edge” programme.

The expedition, which will begin on March 17 and continue for 12 days, aims at engaging and inspiring leaders to take responsibility to build resilient communities and be sustainable in all aspects of living.

“The programme will have workshops on environment, where experts  will impart training to the participants on issues of climate change, sustainability and energy use. We will do research on the impacts of climate change in Antarctica.  Besides, we will study the impact of melting glaciers on earth due to climate change,” said Nibedita.

The expedition will cost her about Rs 16 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. She has appealed the state Government to extend support to make her expedition successful.

Founded by Robert Swan of England, 2041 Foundation aims at teaching the world’s future leaders about climate change and its consequences.
