Bhubaneswar: An Odia girl has received laurels from several quarters for bagging offers from at least five prestigious law schools in USA to pursue LLM.
Pragya Samal, daughter of Ajay Samal of Sunapal village in Jajpur district of Odisha, has received offers for pursuing her LLM from Columbia Law School, Chicago Law School, Michigan Law, Carey Law School and Berkeley Law School in United States, media reports said.
The law schools have also offered scholarship to Pragya. Berkeley Law School has offered her a scholarship of $ 30,000 and Michigan Law School offered $ 50,000, they added.
Her father Ajay has been working as a cook at the Supreme Court of India since 1996. Now, Ajay is serving at the residence of Justice Augustine G Masih.
Pragya had completed her LLB degree from a private law school at Noida. She had been awarded with the gold medal for topping the merit list.
The Odia girl is now working as a research associate at the Centre of Research and Planning in the Supreme Court. She had joined the apex court as a law clerk after completing her LLB, sources said.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and other judges of the Supreme Court invited Pragya and her parents for breakfast yesterday. The judges felicitated Pragya’s parents with shawls and gifted three books with the autographs of the CJI and other justices of the apex court to her.
