Odia IAF officer’s last rites performed; Rajnath pays homage

Bhubaneswar: The last rites of Odia Flight Lieutenant Sunit Mohanty, who died aboard the Indian Air Force (IAF) transport aircraft An-32 that crashed in Arunachal Pradesh on June 3, were performed with full military honours in New Delhi yesterday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid homage to all the 13 IAF plane crash victims, including Sunit, at War Cemetry at Brar Square Delhi Cantonment. Prior to this, the mortal remains were brought to his residence at Dwarka New Delhi.

Sunit, a native of Baliapalli village under Kabisuryanagar block in Ganjam district, was among 13 IAF personnel and passengers onboard the aircraft that went missing in Arunachal Pradesh on June 3.

After eight days of a massive search operation, the wreckage of the aircraft was spotted by an IAF chopper at a height of 12,000 feet near Gatte village on border of Siang and Shi-Yomi districts.
