Odia jawan martyred in Poonch terror attack

Bhubaneswar: Five Indian Army soldiers, including one from Odisha, were killed in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir when the vehicle they were travelling in caught fire due to suspected attack by terrorists today.

The deceased Odia jawan has been identified as Debashis Biswal of Khandayat Sahi of Alaguma panchayat near Sakhigopal in Puri district of Odisha, sources said.

Debashis is the son of Pratap Biswal and Mamata Biswal. He got married in 2021.

Debashis is survived by his wife Sushree Sangeeta and seven-month-old daughter.

According to sources, some terrorists lobbed a grenade on the army vehicle by taking advantage of heavy rains and low visibility in Poonch area around 3 pm today.

“Five personnel of Rashtriya Rifles Unit deployed in the counter terrorist operations lost their lives in the incident,” Indian Army sources said.

Another jawan also sustained critical injuries in the incident and he was rushed to an Army Hospital, sources added.
