Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia singer Pranab Patnaik returned to his home following recovery from illness. The veteran was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for several complications.

A team of delegates on the instruction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had recently met the ailing singer at the hospital and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh as financial assistance for his treatment.

The delegation included Odisha Film Development Corporation Chairman Satyabrata Tripathy, Odia Language Literature & Culture Director Dilip Routrai, Joint Director Subodh Chandra Acharya, and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Secretary Prabodh Rath.

Born at Buxi Bazaar, Cuttack, on January 20, 1938, Patnaik had started his career in singing in the year 1948 after being inspired by his father Late Lal Mohan Patnaik (former speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly). He got an opportunity to sing for radio after winning a music competition organised by Akashvaani-Delhi. He has lent his voice to Odishi, folk, devotional, semi-classical, traditional, Hindi and ghazal song numbers.
