Odia students evacuated from violence-hit Manipur

Bhubaneswar: At least 10 Odia students were evacuated from violence-hit Manipur at the behest of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, said an official today.

These students are pursuing various courses at Central Agricultural University at Imphal in Manipur.

Acting upon the direction of the Chief Minister, the Odisha Parivar swung into action and brought back the Odia students from Manipur, which has witnessed a series of ethnic clashes since May 3.

The students were brought to Kolkata from Imphal yesterday night. They reached Biju Patnaik International Airport in the capital city here today morning, sources said.

Upon their arrival in the capital city here, the students met the Chief Minister at his residence and thanked him for their evacuation.

The Chief Minister interacted with the students and enquired about their studies. He also wished that normalcy would soon return to Manipur, added the official.
