Odisha: 12-hr bandh by Rengali dam displaced hits life in Deogarh

Deogarh: Protesting step-motherly attitude of the State Government towards them, displaced families of Rengali dam today resorted to a 12-hour bandh in Deogarh disrupting normal life in the district.

During the protest, the activists staged road blockade at various places in the district bringing vehicular movements to a grinding halt. Several vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the road. Besides, shops and other business establishments have remained closed due to picketing by the agitators.

The activists under the banner of Rengali Basachyuta Surakshya Samiti pressed for fulfillment of a five-point charter of demands, immediate disbursal of compensation.

Later, police deployed on the spot took around 50 activists to preventive custody to avoid any untoward incident during the shutdown.
