Odisha: 2 dead, 3 injured in gas pipeline mishap in Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: Two labourers reportedly died and three others sustained critical injuries in an accident during the laying of gas pipeline by GAIL (India) at Sunalati in Nayagarh district of Odisha today.

The deceased have been identified as Sonu and Vijay Ganguly of Maharashtra. All the injured persons are the residents of Uttar Pradesh, sources said.

According to sources, the mishap occurred when the labourers were cleaning the pipes by using a compressor.

Altogether five labourers, including Sonu and Vijay, sustained injuries in the mishap. They were rushed to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) immediately.

However, the doctors declared Sonu and Vijay dead on arrival, sources added.

“All the labourers were working for a private company engaged by the GAIL (India) to lay gas pipeline in Nayagarh,” said a source.

On being informed, Itamati police reached the spot and began a probe.
