Odisha: 2 drown in Bada river in separate incidents

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were reportedly drowned in Bada river in two separate incidents in Odisha’s Ganjam district today.

Mamata Sahu (35) of Kulad village under Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam was swept away by the strong current while taking bath in the river in the morning.

Mamata was later rescued and rushed to Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critical condition. However, she was declared dead on arrival.

“We have handed over the body to the deceased’s family after conducting a postmortem. An unnatural death case has been registered in this regard,” said an official of Bhanjanagar police.

In the second incident, Babula Mallick of Badangi village under Tarasingi police station in Ganjam went missing while washing his hands and feet in Bada river yesterday evening. Babula’s body was recovered from the river today afternoon, locals said.

The police have registered an unnatural death case in this regard.
