Odisha: 2 women among six held in Phulbani snatching case

Bhubaneswar: The police in Kandhamal district of Odisha today claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of six persons, including two women.

The gang was involved in the snatching of Rs 17.5 lakh from businessman Ajay Patra and his accountant Ramesh Pradhan at Phulbani town on April 3. The entire amount has been seized from the arrested gang members, said Kandhamal SP Suvendu Kumar Patra.

The arrested have been identified as A. Kishore, A. Hari, M. Lili, Saraswati Das, Litu Gaud and M. Pandu of Aska area in Ganjam district, added the SP.

The gang was involved in several cases of snatching in several districts of Odisha. A four-wheeler, a two-wheeler and seven smart phones have been seized from arrested persons, said the SP.

According to police, accused A. Kishore and A. Hari had followed Ajay and Ramesh when they were on their way to a bank to deposit the money.

The duo snatched away the money kept in a bag from Ajay and Ramesh in front of the bank and left the place on a bike, police said.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Ajay, the Police had registered a case in this regard and launched a probe.
