Odisha: 2 young brothers drown while crossing canal on banana tree raft

Jajpur: Tragedy struck a family of Meduakul village under Bari block in Jajpur district after two young brothers met a watery grave while crossing a canal on a banana tree raft this morning.

The two brothers have been identified as Subhrajit Behera (24) and Mitul Behera (29) of Meduakul village.

Sources said the two were crossing the canal on a banana tree raft  at around 9 AM today to collect grass for their goats. After a while, one of them slipped into deep water while another suffered critical injuries as the raft  overturned. 

Later, Fire brigade staff with the help of locals rescued the two and rushed them to a hospital in Bari, where doctors declared them dead.

Worth mentioning, Bari block was badly affected by the recent flood following incessant rain triggered by back-to-back low pressures on Bay of Bengal.
