Boudh: Three employees of a renowned e-commerce company were arrested for allegedly embezzling around Rs 39 lakh, Boudh Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj Prasad informed in a presser today.

The three arrested are Sunil Priyaranjan Pal (25) from Nayagarh town, Ashish Ranjan Pradhan (24) from Baghamari village of Khurda district and Byomakesh Giri (31) from Jaleswar of Balasore.

According to the senior official, the tricksters work as hubs in charge at different distribution points of Flipkart. The trio used to collect money from the customers against ‘cash on deliveries’. However, the wrongdoers do not deposit the collection amounts with the company and misappropriated, said SP Raj Prasad while briefing mediapersons on the employees' 'modus of operandi'.

Even to the extent, the trio was placing orders with the company for various products and, in turn, was selling those in the open market at cheaper rates, the SP Raj Prasad expressed.

A case (No-85/2023) was earlier registered at Baunsuni police station of Boudh in connection with embezzlement of around Rs 28 lakh. A similar case (No-111/2023) was registered at Kantamal police station over the fraud of Rs 1.94 lakh and another case at Bamur PS of Angul over the misappropriation of around Rs 9 lakh. Acting on the registered cases, police were tacking the mobile phones of the three employees leading to their arrests, when they were entering into Boudh district border.

Police have seized two motorcycles (bearing registration numbers OD-33 AG-9785 and OD-02 CJ-0963), a laptop, three mobile phones, and cash of Rs 4.5 lakh from the possession of the wrongdoers.
