Odisha: 33 students of Plus 2 residential college test COVID positive

Dhenkanal: After Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Mayurbhanj, another educational institution in the state has reported several COVID-19 positive cases.

As per reports,  as many as 33 students of a Plus 2 residential college in Kunjakanta area in Dhenkanal town have contracted the virus. Following this, the Dhenkanal Municipality authorities have sealed buildings of the college as well as its hostel, declaring it as micro containment zone.

The civic body will carry out a sanitization drive in the entire campus to curb further spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, the municipality authorities served a show-cause notice to the college authorities seeking a reply from the latter as to why the students left the college hostels despite restrictions. Besides, the respective local authorities have been asked to keep the infected students under isolation.

Yesterday, the administration had declared Kunjakanta area as containment zone for a period of 10 days.

Recently, more than 70 students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla of Sambalpur district have contracted the virus. Besides, 53 girl students of a Government-run high school in Sundargarh and 26 students of a tribal school in Thakurmunda block of Mayurbhanj district have tested positive for the virus in last few days.
