Odisha: 38-YO man gets lifer for sexually exploiting minor girl

Bhadrak: The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court today awarded life imprisonment to a 38-year-old man for sexual exploiting a minor girl in November, 2017.

Convicting Manas Jena, a resident of Ghusurigadia village under Khaira police limits in Bhadrak district, the court also imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 on him. He will have to spend one year more in the jail, if he fails pay the fine amount.

On the other hand, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has directed to the district administration to provide Rs 3 lakh compensation to the victim.

In the fateful evening of November 3, 2017, when the minor girl of Dagarasahi in Charampa was playing alone outside her house, Manas managed to take her to an isolated place and later sexually assaulted her. The man was staying in a house in the same village on rent. The girl narrated her plight before her mother, following which her father lodged a complaint Bhadrak Town police in this regard.

Registering a case under Section 376 of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act, the cops arrested Manas and produced him before court. Since then, he was lodged in jail as an undertrial poisoner (UTP).
