Puri: Four drones equipped with cameras were illegally flown when the Pahandi ritual of the sibling deities was being performed and three chariots were being pulled on the Grand Road in Puri. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) devices were seized by police.

According to an official source, as permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is required to fly drones, and Jagannath temple area has been declared a ‘No Flying Zone’, police are probing into the incident. A special team has been formed to tackle illegally flying drones.

Police are investigating to obtain the details of drone owners and the extent of videography, a senior administrative official said.

Stringent action will be taken against those who have flown drones over Badadanda, Srimandir, and Gundicha temple. A few people flouted the norms & guidelines and the wrongdoers will be punished.

A detailed probe into the incident is underway, the administrative official added.
