Odisha: 4 servitors of Lingaraj temple held for hurling abuses at devotees

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested four servitors of Lingaraj temple in Odisha capital on charges of hurling abuses at devotees and extorting money and ornaments from them.

The arrested servitors have been identified as Manmohan Mahapatra, Bira Behera, Krupasindhu Mahapatra and Prakash Batu.

The accused servitors used to hurl abuses at devotees visiting the 11th century shrine. They were also extorting money and ornaments from the devotees, said an official of Lingaraj Police.

“The arrested servitors had earlier been booked in several cases of crime. It has been alleged that they were using various intoxicants and creating troubles for the devotees thronging the shrine,” added the official.

The police have registered a case in this regard.
