Odisha: 77 persons arrested in connection with group clash on the outskirts of State Capital

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar yesterday arrested 77 persons in connection with a group clash that erupted in the wee hours of Friday at around 2.00 pm between the residents of Talasahi and Majhisahi in Padmakesharipur village on the outskirts of the State Capital.

Based on two FIRs lodged by Talasahi and Majhisahi residents under Injana panchayat, the accused persons in two separate cases registered under Sections 147, 148, 323, 324, 336, 337, 427, 307, 506 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were held for pelting stones and bottles, and ransacking houses. Another case was registered by Mancheswar police under Sections 143, 147, 353, 336, 294, 506, 307 and 149, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said today in a presser while briefing mediapersons.

Some people who had sustained injuries in the incident have been admitted to hospital for treatment. Besides, the arrested persons will be forwarded to court later in the day, DCP Singh informed.

“The law and order situation is under control and more persons will be arrested soon,” Singh added.

Worth mentioning, more than 20 persons sustained injuries in the group clash at Padmakesharipur. The violent incident ensued over past enmity between the two groups as they pelted stones and bottles at each other.
