Bhubaneswar: The Infocity police in Odisha capital here today arrested Odia actress Mousumi Nayak on charges of hampering the social prestige of writer Banasmita Pati.
The police had registered a case against the actress as per a complaint lodged by the writer. Actress Mousumi (39) has been produced in a local court, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Bisoyi.
According to sources, Mousumi had earlier lodged a complaint against Banasmita with Infocity police on allegations that she had invested money in stock markets through the writer. However, the writer has failed to repay her money.
Subsequently, the actress had withdrawn her complaint following the writer’s assurance to return the money, sources said.
She once again lodged a complaint against the writer with Chandaka police in September this year.
In her complaint, the actress alleged that writer Banasmita was forcing her to get into escort service. She also alleged that the writer had threatened her when she sought her money back, sources added.
However, the writer moved the Orissa High Court on the plea that the actress had hampered her social prestige by levelling false allegations against her, sources said.
The Infocity police registered a case against the actress under Sections 385, 294, 506 and 507 of the IPC as per the court order.
Notably, Mousumi had acted in several Odia, Hindi and Telugu movies.
