Odisha alerts farmers as low pressure forms over Bay

Bhubaneswar: With the likelihood of low-intensity rainfall in Odisha’s southern districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam and Gajapati on December 7 and high-intensity rainfall in coastal and adjoining districts on December 8 and 9, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today put all District Collectors on alert.

The SRC in a letter asked District Collectors to advise farmers to shift their harvested paddy to a safe place and keep it properly stacked under suitable cover so as to avoid any loss/damage due to rain.

The letter further said that where paddy crops are ready for harvest, farmers should take steps to harvest the same and store safely to avoid damage due to rain.

Besides, the SRC has asked District Collectors to take necessary measures to protect the paddy in mandis, if any, against rain.
