Odisha allocates 10 acres for ‘Paika Bidroha’ memorial

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has agreed to provide 10 acres of land for establishment of a ‘Paika Bidroha’ memorial at Barunei foothills. This was announced by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a social media post today.

Pradhan thanked Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for giving his assent to allot the land for the memorial. The Union Minister further stated preparations for construction of the memorial has taken a ‘step forward’ and he is proud to be an Odia.

He mentioned that the Centre had allocated special provision in the Union Budget to commemorate 200 years of Paika Rebellion, the first organised armed rebellion against the  British East India Company’s rule in the country.

Pradhan also said the memorial will act as an inspiration for youths of Odisha and the country. He sought the cooperation of all stakeholders for the setting up of the ‘Paika Bidroha’ memorial which will be a symbol of heroism and pride of Odia.
