Odisha: Anganwadi worker ‘blackmailed’ by lover with obscene photos

Dhenkanal: The police rescued an Anganwadi worker, who was allegedly held captive in a house in Gondia village of Dhenkanal district, and detained a youth in this connection today morning.

The Anganwadi worker, a resident of ward no 11 of Bhuban NAC, have been in a love affair with the accused, Jagabandhu Guru hailing from ward no 8 of the same NAC for the past eight years.

As per a written police complaint filed by the Anganwadi worker today, Jagabandhu had been blackmailing the young woman with her obscene photos. The accused was threatening the Anganwadi worker to make her photos viral and kill her father if she did not marry him. The complainant further said the love affair developed when she was a minor.

Out of fear, the Anganwadi worker remained silent without telling anyone about the matter during these eight years. However, she used to speak to the accused over phone as the youth had been threatening her frequently.

On March 5 evening, Jagabandhu reached the young woman’s house and asked her to marry him. The accused then told her to stay with him at his relative’s place during the night.

The complainant added Jagabandhu took the Anganwadi worker to his relative’s place in Jharada village under Gondia police limits. At his relative’s place, Jagabandhu sexually and mentally harassed the young woman.

Somehow she managed to call up a media person today morning and narrated her ordeal. The media person then informed the local police who subsequently raided the house in Jharada and rescued the Anganwadi worker. The youth was also detained by the police for questioning.

Based on the young woman’s complaint, the Gondia police registered a case no 64 under Sections 342, 376 and 506 of IPC.

Meanwhile, the Anganwadi worker was sent to the Sriramachandrapur CHC for medical examination.
Sources said she was unable to speak properly to the psychological trauma.
