Odisha announces cash rewards for SAG medal winners

Odisha government today announced cash rewards for the winners and participants of the 12th edition of the multi-sport event, South Asian Games (SAG) being held at Guwahati and Shillong.

The state government announced cash prizes of Rs 50,000 for gold medal winners, Rs 40,000 for silver, Rs 30,000 for bronze and Rs 15, 000 for participants of the XII South Asian Games, which is on live in Guwahati and Shillong.

The 12th edition of the multi-sport event has started from February 5 and will continue till 16. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had graced the inaugural event in Guwahati.

Notably, India has dominated the medals tally so far followed by Sri Lanka. Odisha sportspersons have also made it big at the event by winning medals in the 12-day event.

Jauna Murmu, Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda have won medals in the SAG.

Jauna won two golds in women’s 400m hurdles and 4X400 meter women’s relay events. She broke her best timing after 2010 as she clocked 57.69 secs for the gold in 400m hurdles.

Srabani has bagged a gold in women’s 200m by clocking 23.91 seconds, while another Odisha icon Dutee Chand has won silver by clocking 24.14 secs.

Saraswati Rout has also won gold in weightlifting (women’s 58 kg) and Mandakini Majhi has won gold in Kho kho (team event) in the SAG.
