Odisha: Another government medical college gets approval

Bhubaneswar: The National Medical Commission has given its approval for opening of a government medical college at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district of Odisha.

The new medical college will have 100 MBBS seats, said Health and Family Welfare department Secretary Shalini Pandit here today.

“Happy to share that National Medical Commission has approved opening of a Govt Medical College at Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi, with admission of 100 MBBS seats from academic session 2023-24,” said the Health and Family Welfare department in a twitter post today.

“This has been made possible due to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and it will fulfill the long standing aspiration of the people of Odisha,” said the department in another twitter post.

Notably, the state government has established Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) in the capital city here on the 107th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on March 5.

The university will provide uniform and quality medical education in undergraduate and postgraduate courses of Allopathy, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, laboratory technology and all other paramedical sciences in the state, said an official.

Earlier, all government medical colleges, Ayurvedic, homeopathy, nursing and paramedical institutions were coming under different general universities across Odisha.
