Puri, July 14:

Renowned Odisha based artist Sudrasan Pattnaik on Monday joined the rest of the world in congratulating the German team on winning the FIFA football World Cup earlier in the day, but in his unique style on sand.

Sudarsan Sand ArtSudarsan created a 5 ft high sand sculpture on the beach here with the face of the captain of Germany, Philip Lahm in the background and the word ‘Congratulation’ written on the German colours on the foreground. He used about four tonnes of sand, including some of the coloured variety.

Sudarsan started working on the sculpture soon after the match ended at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro in the wee hours today and finished it in four hours’ time. He was assisted by students of his sand art school in erecting the sculpture.

A large number of tourists gathered at the spot on Puri beach and watched the sculpture.

“I would like to congratulate the Germany team on winning the FIFA World Cup. I will send a photograph of my sculpture to the captain of the team,” Pattnaik said.

Sudarsan had recently won the ‘People’s Choice’ prize and the prize in the doubles category with his American collaborator at the sand art World cup at Atlantic City in USA.
