Odisha: ASI of Police suspended for inaction in minor’s rape case

Dhenkanal: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police was suspended today for allegedly not acting upon a complaint filed in connection with the rape of a minor girl in Dhenkanal district.

Following a preliminary investigation, the North-Central IG Narasingha Bhol suspended ASI of Bhapur police outpost, Padmanabha Sahu.

Official sources said the investigation revealed the ASI did not act upon the complaint filed by the family members of the minor girl alleging her rape.

As per reports, a minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth of the same village on July 6. Following this, family members of the minor girl went to the Bhapur police outpost and filed a complaint.

But, the ASI of the outpost did not look into the complaint due to which the accused got the support and raped the minor girl again on July 28, alleged the family members.

Unable to bear the trauma the minor girl died by suicide after consuming poison last night.
Earlier in the day, her family members lodged a complaint before Dhenkanal SP Anupama James accusing the police of its inaction into the rape case.

The Dhenkanal SP said the accused will be nabbed soon, adding that a separate probe will be launched into the reported suicide of the minor girl.
