Bhubaneswar: The budget session of the Odisha assembly was today adjourned sine die, five days ahead of schedule.

Speaker Surya Narayan Patro announced early closure of the monsoon session of the House after accepting a motion moved by the Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallik.

The government feels early adjournment of the House would be appropriate as there was no pending official business to transact.

The monsoon session of the state Assembly held in two phases. The first phase of the Assembly session held from June 25 to July 2 and the second phase began on July 12 and was scheduled to continue till August 8.

During the session, state Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari had presented a Rs 1.39 lakh crore annual budget for the year 2019-20 with focus on agriculture, women empowerment and cyclone Fani restoration work.

The Appropriation Bill on the budget for the year 2019-20 was introduced in the Assembly on July 31.

Besides, several important bills were also passed during the budget session of the Assembly.
