Speaker Niranjan Pujari today adjourned proceeding of Odisha Assembly first till 11:30 AM and later till 12:30 PM as opposition members came to the well of the House and shouted slogans demanding a ruling from the Speaker that would ask the government to issue a clarification on the statement made by chit fund scam inquiry commission head Justice MM Das.

“The statement, activity and deeds of the Commission are condemnable. I demand the government to issue a statement on it,” said Leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra speaking to reporters outside the Assembly.

BJD MLA and Spokesperson Pratap Jena, however, said that according to the rulebook, the House cannot discuss a person who is not a member of it.

“Besides, the accusations against the government are not right. It is doing enough to refund the money to chit fund scam victims. There are many other key issues that can be taken up in the Assembly. The opposition parties have become directionless,” added Jena.

It may be noted here that Congress today moved an adjournment notice to discuss the deficit supply of sugar in public distribution system (PDS) shops of the state. The Speaker has accepted the notice. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare (FS&CW) Minister Sanjay Das Burma will make a statement on this issue.
