Bhubaneswar, Nov 26:

The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 3 pm as uproarious scenes continued even after resumption after the first adjournmen ttoday.

assembly ruling party protest

As soon as the House reassembled at 11.30 AM, ruling BJD members rushed into the well of the House demanding suspension of BJP members for their unruly behavior towards the speaker of the House. As the ruckus continued, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 3 PM.

“Such a situation has arisen because of the bullying attitude of the ruling party in the last few days to get bills passed by throttling the voice of the opposition. Treasury bench members stalling proceedings of the House by coming into the well of House in the presence of the chief minister, as seen in the last few days, is probably the rarest anywhere in the country. This is most unfortunate and I condemn it,” said Leader of the Opposition Narsingh Mishra speaking to the media.

Reacting on the demand by treasury bench members for suspension of BJP members for today’s incident, BJP state unit president and Patnagarh MLA K V Singhdeo told reporters; “See, protest on the floor of the House or inside the Parliament is done by all political parties and we have done accordingly. The Speaker is well within his powers to debar the members or suspend them if there is anything undemocratic in it.”

“Boycott of the business advisory committee meeting yesterday by the Opposition members was a clear indication of their intention of not allowing the House to run. The House, when is in sessio,n entails huge expenditure at the poor people’s money. Therefore, the House must conduct business,” said Pratap Jena Mahanga MLA and BJD spokesperson.
