Odisha Assembly Budget session starts on stormy note as BJP, Cong MLAs protest

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Budget session commenced today on a stormy note as opposition BJP and Congress MLAs protested against the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over various issues.

The first day of the budget session began with Governor Prof Ganeshi’s Lal’s address in the House. However, members of both BJP and Congress created ruckus during the Governor’s speech.

While BJP MLAs boycotted the Governor’s address staging dharna at the entrance of the House, the Congress members stalled the House over Naba Das murder case and deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

The newly elected Dhamnagar MLA Suryabanshi Suraj prepared the placard for the protest and the BJP members raised slogans against the Government.

Following Governor’s speech, Speaker BK Arukha adjourned the House. The House will meet tomorrow.

As per the notification by Odisha Parliamentary Affairs Department, the discussion on Governor’s address will take place for two days on February 22 and 23. The annual budget for the year 2023-24 will be tabled on February 24. The session will have 27 business days and 18 No Meeting days. The session is scheduled to conclude on April 6.
