Odisha Assembly Speaker says ‘sorry’ to LoP, here’s why

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on Tuesday said ‘sorry’ to Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik for adjourning the House the previous day when the latter was speaking on the mysterious death of woman panchayat executive officer Smitarani Biswal.

“I was unable to understand what the Leader of Opposition was saying yesterday. I feel sorry for that,” Patro said at the beginning of the Zero Hour, adding that he had no intention to stop Naik from speaking in the House.

Opposition welcomed the Speaker’s gesture, while the ruling party members raised question as how the Speaker can tender apology.

But Patro said, “A mistake is a mistake. If anyone commits mistake, there should be no hesitation in saying sorry”.

Later the saffron party leaders participated in the business of the House.
