Odisha bags national award for eco-friendly road construction

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government won 1st prize at the National Awards Function of the Union Rural Development Ministry for constructing highest length of roads using Green Technology.

The State Government also bagged the top prize for constructing highest length of roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and secured 3rd prize for asset management.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated concerned officials over the achievement. Rural connectivity is a focus area to ensure equitable development, the CM said.

The Odisha Government had earlier asked the Works Department to prepare a guideline for use of environmentally unfriendly waste in road construction works. The Panchayati Raj Department was asked to put a mechanism in place for collection of waste plastics in rural areas and the same was handed over to the Housing and Urban Development Department at identified points. After segregation of the plastic materials, it was used in road construction.
