Bhubaneswar: It was an emotionally-charged moment for Dulal Majumdar, one of the Odisha train mishap victims, as he was reunited with his family at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, a week after the tragic accident took place at Bahanaga in the State's Balasore district.

Hailing from  Uttar Barbil village of Karbi Anglong district in Assam, Dulal was one of the lucky ones who managed to survive the mishap that claimed hundreds of lives. He was rescued from the site and shifted to the casualty ward of AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment on June 5, three days after the accident.

After his admission, hospital authorities and sections of the media got details of Dulal and informed his father who reached AIIMS today.

"Dulal was brought here from Balasore in a private ambulance. His head was wrapped in a blood soaked cloth. He was admitted with traumatic brain injury with frontal contusion and subdural hematoma. He was initially confused and conscious and kept under close observation with medication. However, as there was clinical deterioration and increase in brain swelling, he was operated immediately by Dr Chinmayee Das and was recuperating post surgery. He was weaned off ventilator and is stable now," said one of the doctors.

"The patient's condition was very bad when he was admitted here. His condition improved after surgery," corroborated another doctor.

"I feel humbled by all the efforts that were taken for my son's treatment. I could reach here, all thanks to the hospital and media fraternity who coordinated and helped me reunite with my son," Dulal's father said.
