Balasore: Months after a broad daylight heist at Chandaneswar Union Bank at Talasari in Odisha's Balasore district, police claimed to have cracked the case by arresting six persons in this connection here today. Along with the arrests, police have also seized 300 gm gold ornaments, three pistols, nine mobile phones, four bikes and Rs 6.2 lakh cash. Police informed that while three of the accused are from Nachinda, Routmandaruni and Baharda within Kamarda police limits of Balasore, the others are natives of Dantan and Janput in West Bengal.

Addressing mediapersons, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath said the accused had criminal antecedents and were involved in various cases of robbery from State Bank and Baroda Bank in Basta, Bhograi UCO Bank and gold shops in West Bengal.

On April 26 at about 1 pm, six armed miscreants reportedly entered the Chandaneswar Union Bank and looted 600 packets of gold ornaments and Rs 45,92,910 cash. While two of them jumped over the cash counter, others locked the main entrace gate and carried out the loot at gunpoint.

Following the robbery, bank manager Navneet Xalxo had filed a police complaint and case had been registered. Later, investigation was initiated and after scanning all CCTV footages, it came to the fore that around 10-12 persons were involved in the crime.  A search was subsequently carried out by a special team and six youths of the loot gang were nabbed. Efforts are on to track down all others involved in the case, Nath said.
