Odisha: Berhampur University student found hanging in his hostel room

Bhubaneswar: A first year student of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IRPM) at Berhampur University was found hanging in his hostel room today.

The deceased has been identified as Tarini Prasad Biswal of Tirtol area in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, sources said.

Biswal was staying at room no. 102 of New Boys’ Hostel of Berhampur University, sources added.

Some of Biswal’s friends had found his room locked from inside yesterday night. They thought that Biswal was sleeping in his room. However, he did not come out of his room till the noon today, said a source.

Even, Biswal did not respond when a few boys of the hostel knocked his door in the afternoon. Suspecting something unpleasant, they peeped into Biswal’s room through the window and found him hanging from the ceiling fan, it added.

Biswal reportedly used a bed sheet to hang himself, said an employee of the hostel.

On being informed, Berhampur University Registrar Sachidananda Nayak, Warden Sushant Kumar Baral, Hostel Superintendent Padmanabh Samant reached the New Boys’ Hostel and enquired about the incident. Later, the university authorities lodged a complaint in this regard with Gopalpur police.

“We have informed the incident to Biswal’s family. Police will recover the body in the presence of his family members,” said an official of the university.

The police have registered an unnatural death case in this regard.
