Bhubaneswar: Here’s a good news for train passengers! The much awaited Bhubaneswar New railway station will be thrown open to commuters before Rath Yatra, which begins from July 14. The new station is situated around 14 km from Bhubaneswar main station.
A Spokesperson of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has confirmed the news to Odisha Sun Times.
“The Ministry of Railways has decided to throw open the Bhubaneswar New station for public before Rath Yatra and to start with, a few passenger trains will be given stoppage at the station,” said ECoR Chief Public Relations Officer JP Mishra.
The trains which will start services at the Bhubaneswar New railways station are 58001/58002 Puri-Howrah Passenger, 58131/58132 Rourkela-Puri-Rourkela Passenger and 68534/68533 Cuttack-Brahmapur-Cuttack MEMU.
The Bhubaneswar New railways station will have total seven platforms but, initially, at least three will be opened before Rath Yatra, he added.
The new station, around 14 km from the main station, is situated between Mancheswar and Barang stations. The railways had planned this station keeping the heavy traffic in the main station in mind.
Official sources said the cost of the project was Rs 50 crore.
Passengers from Barang, Nandankanan, Raghunathpur, Kalarahanga, KIIT area, Patia and nearby areas will board trains from the new station, the ECoR official said.
This apart, the Railways authorities will launch several other projects before Rath Yatra. A new ticket counter will be made functional at Bagala Dharmasala in Jajpur district by end of this week.
A new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) has been constructed at Brahmapur Railway station and this will also be commissioned soon.
Similarly, a new station building and a foot over bridge (FOB) at Bhadrak station will be commissioned later this month, the Railways informed.
