Bhubaneswar: Labour minister and BJD nominee Sarada Prasad Nayak faced stiff resistance from voters while visiting a polling booth in Rourkela during the second phase Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha today.

The incident took place at booth no. 92, set up at Gopabandhupalli Primary School, in Rourkela.

The voters opposed Nayak’s entry into the polling booth and raised slogans against him. Soon a scuffle ensued between Nayak’s supporters and the locals near the booth.

On being informed, a team of the Plant Site police station reached the spot and escorted the minister out of the polling booth.

Soon after the incident, additional police personnel were sent to the spot to ensure smooth polling.

However, Nayak claimed that some people having affiliation with a rival party tried to create disturbance when he visited the polling booth.

“A candidate can visit any polling booth under his constituency. Some people deliberately tried to oppose me and create disturbance at the booth. I left the place to avoid any untoward incident and informed the issue to the SP,” Nayak said.
