Odisha BJP alleges irregularities in voters’ list; lodges complaint with SEC

The BJP today alleged of rampant irregularities in the compilation of voters’ list at various places across Odisha.

The party’s state unit vice president Samir Mohanty alleged that Balasore BDO and Collector at the instance of the ‘third floor’ have committed irregularities in voters’ list of Olanda Saragaon village.

“Names of 421 voters have been added to the list after November 25. Moreover, work orders under Pradhan Mantri Awas Scheme have been issued despite model code of conduct being in force,” said Mohanty briefing reporters here today.

The state unit of the BJP today lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) in this regard.

The party has stated in its complaint that the two administrative officials defying the SEC’s directives have committed irregularities in the voters’ list. The party submitted a copy of the annexure mentioning names of 421 voters (hand written) in addition to the 5,497 total number voters in the list in the case of Olanda Saragaon village. The party has demanded the removal of District Election Officer.

The SEC has taken note of the allegations and the Collector will be asked to submit a report on the matter following which appropriate action will be taken, informed SEC Secretary Rabindranath Sahu.
