Odisha BJP files complaint against ruling BJD for ‘misleading’ print ad over free foodgrains

Bhubaneswar: Odisha unit of BJP lodged an FIR with Kharvel Nagar police against the ruling BJD alleging that the party has hijacked Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) of the Central Govt, today.

“The saffron camp resorted to the law over fake and fabricated advertisement of the PMGKAY by BJD. The ruling party has been using the Central Govt scheme in its own interest by hatching conspiracy in a much-planned manner. BJP burnt the papers containing such advertisements as a token of protest. The ad relating to the State government’s food security programme was recently published on behalf of the Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare department,” a BJP spokesperson Manoj Mohapatra said.

Allegedly, the CM has given a message through the ad that the term for distribution of free rice under the food security programme has been extended for five years. As per the scheme, every beneficiary will get 5 kilograms of free rice every month. Accordingly, the State will incur an expense of around Rs 1,250 crore in a year. However, BJD has not mentioned the source of funding, Mohapatra stated.
