Bhubaneswar: The BJP today filed a complaint with the police against BJD Dalit Cell Convener Bishnu Das for publicly revealing the identity and address of the Kunduli gang rape victim.
A delegation of the BJP led by its State unit general secretary Dilip Mallick today lodged a complaint at the Mahila Police station here against Das for disclosing the name and address of the Kunduli gang rape victim while addressing a press conference on Friday here.
The BJP demanded that Das should be punished for his act which is unlawful.
“Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board Bishnu Das who claimed to have submitted his report has made it public. While addressing the press meet he has disclosed name of the victim, her father’s name and details of her address to the public which is a cognizable offence in the eyes of the law. We have filed a complaint at the Mahila Police Station in this regard. BJP demands stringent action against him for such lapse,” stated Mallick speaking to reporters after filing the complaint.
However, Das has refuted the allegation made by the BJP.
“I haven’t disclosed the name and address of the victim. I have only referred to her as the Kunduli rape victim. I had told that a minor girl belonging to the scheduled caste community was allegedly raped at Kunduli village,” said Das refuting the allegation.
On the other hand, a delegation the Congress led by party MLA Krushna Prasad Sagaria submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking proper investigation of the gang rape case.
The delegation in its memorandum sought treatment of the victim at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and compensation of Rs 50 lakh for her.
