Odisha BJP peeved over Puri Shankaracharya’s remarks

Bhubaneswar: The BJP, which has been all through criticizing the Naveen Patnaik led Odisha government for all the mess that has been taking place in the 12th century shrine Sri Mandir was taken unawares by a critical remark against it by none other than Shankaracharya of Govardhan Peeth Swami Nischalananda Saraswati.

The Shankaracharya today pointed out that the BJP which had shared power with the BJD for nine years had done nothing to clear the mess in the Sri Mandir despite holding the Law portfolio.

“There was a time when BJD was running a coalition government with BJP as its ally. The Law minister was from the BJP. What efforts were undertaken then to streamline the affairs of the Sri Mandir?” questioned Swami Nischalananda Saraswati speaking to reporters.

The BJP has termed the Puri seer’s remarks as ‘unfortunate’.

“Several measures were taken during that period. There was no Niladri Bije fiasco or Bramha paribartan fiasco. Making such remarks without having full knowledge of that period by Shankaracharya or whosoever is simply unfortunate,” stated a peeved Biswabhusan Harichandan, former minister and senior BJP leader.

Notably, Harichandan was the Law minister for nine years in the BJD-BJP coalition government from 2000-2009.
