Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP questioned the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) over 'biased' action in poll violence cases reported from across the state.

Condemning the arrest of Prasanta Jagadev in an EVM vandalism case, BJP leader Sameer Mohanty raised doubt over the action taken by the CEO in other cases especially Chhendipada poll violence case during 3rd phase of polls in Odisha.

He expressed shock over the sections of the IPC under which the BJP's MLA candidate has been booked.

"Prasanta Jagadev had gone to cast his vote at the polling station. Without verifying the facts, he was sent to jail. However, no action was taken against Chhendipada MLA Susant Kumar Behera, whose assault video is going viral. The CEO remained silent only after serving a notice to the BJD's MLA candidate. What kind of justice is this? We have given ample evidence against the BJD workers and leaders, but nothing happened," alleged the former Odisha BJP president.

"Even the CEO could not transfer a police ASI of Hinjili police station despite allegations against the latter. It's unfortunate to clarify on his part stating that a political party has put pressure," he said.

He urged the CEO to be unbiased while dealing with the poll related violence.

"The CEO should prove his impartiality by taking action in rest of the violences occurred during elections," Mohanty said.

On Saturday, Susant Behera, the BJD's MLA candidate from Chhendipada, allegedly assaulted a BJP worker at a polling station at Similisahi village in Koshala panchayat during the voting in Sambalpur Parliamentary Constituency.
