Odisha BJP women wing moves OHRC over stole removing incident

The BJP Mahila Morcha’s state unit today lodged a complaint with the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) in connection with the forcible removal of black stoles/scarves/shawls worn by women at the venue of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s meeting in Sundargarh district.

Mahila Morcha president Prabhati Parida in a written complaint with the OHRC alleged that police and BJD workers forcibly removed black stoles/scarves/shawls worn by women at the venue of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s meeting in Sundargarh district. She further alleged that some even groped the women. She claimed that when asked about the incident police had stated that it was done under instructions from the Chief Minister.

Stating that it was against Odisha’s culture Parida alleged that the women who had gone to attend the meeting were subjected to sexual torture under Chief Minister’s orders.

The Mahila Morcha president claimed that removal of black stoles/scarves/shawls from the bodies of the women has violated their fundamental rights and comments on clothes of women in public have infringed upon their human rights.

Terming the incident as an insult to womankind, Parida prayed the OHRC to register her complaint and suitably penalize the persons guilty of insulting women.
