Bhubaneswar: The civic body (BMC) here is in the process of demarcating a patch of land to relocate the makeshift shops in Market Building of Unit-II locality to elsewhere and the ongoing row will be resolved within two to three days, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange informed today.
Makeshift vendors will be rehabilitated in conformity with the regulations relating to street vending.
Accordingly, a discussion will be held among all stakeholders to resolve the issue. A team of the civic body has been discussing with the General Administration (GA) department in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention, an association of 165 permanent shop owners under the banner Central Market Association (CMA) in Market Building convened a meeting of its members yesterday. However, they had a face-off today morning with makeshift vendors of the shopping complex.
The vendors were heard hurling abusive language leading to a heated argument. This continued for quite a long time and later subsided. Tension might erupt again, a source said.
The CMA then held its meeting on the Market Building premises. An action plan for the future was decided in the meeting presided by the association president Pradyumna Kumar Jena.
Following the closure of Market Building in protest, BMC Commissioner earlier sought the cooperation of permanent shop owners. Discussions will help find a solution to the problem, he had said.
