Odisha: BMC rolls up sleeves to provide service during Durga Puja

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today convened an inter-departmental coordination meeting to provide hassle-free service to the citizens during the upcoming Durga Puja.

Mayor Sulochana Das presided over the meeting, which discussed various issues related to roads, drains and sanitation facilities.

The Mayor urged the officials of various departments to take necessary steps to provide seamless service to the residents of the capital city during the festival.

“As the festival is going to be observed with public participation after a gap of two years, we should take extra care to provide uninterrupted service to the people. We also urge the corporators to cooperate our officials for providing basic facilities to people,” Das said.

The Mayor further said there is a need of proper coordination among various departments for a smooth Durga Puja.

“We will depute officials to each ward to facilitate urgent repair of roads and arrange lighting and sanitation facilities. Steps would be taken to prevent fire and other accidents. At least four temporary ponds will be made available for immersion of idols,” said BMC Commissioner Vijaya Amruta Kulangae.

The BMC will form a dedicated team to inspect eateries for ensuring hygiene and quality of foods during the festival. This apart, the civic body will issue a set of standard operating procedure (SOP) for an incident-free Durga Puja, he added.

“We will carry out fogging, surveillance and source reduction activities in dengue prevalent pockets of the city. The people should follow the Covid rules while visiting pandals. The puja committees should take adequate measures to ensure cleanliness at their pandals,” said the Commissioner.
