Odisha: BMC slaps Rs 1 lakh fine on ECoR community hall for violating garbage disposal rules

Bhubaneswar: The civic authorities today sealed a community hall of East Coast Railway (ECoR) in Odisha capital here for violating garbage disposal rules.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) also slapped a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the management of the community centre for dumping garbage on public places, sources said.

BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange spotted garbage dumped along a road near the community centre at Mancheswar during a surprise visit to the Ward No. 9 of the city today morning.

Upon enquiry, the BMC Commissioner came to know about the casual attitude of the employees of the community centre with regard to the garbage disposal rules laid down by the civic authorities.

The BMC Commissioner immediately asked the civic officials to seal the community centre, sources said.

“The community halls and centres across the capital city have been asked to adhere to the garbage disposal rules strictly. Any violation in this regard will invite stern action,” said the BMC Commissioner.

The civic authorities allowed the community centre to restart its operation only after its management deposited the penalty amount with the BMC, sources added.
