Odisha: BMC slaps Rs 5 Lakh fine on Gutkha company for putting up promotional display gates

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to keep the State Capital clean and green, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a tough stance. The civic body in Bhubaneswar today imposed a hefty fine of Rs 5 lakh on a Pan Masala (gutkha) manufacturing company brand named ‘Vimal’ for disfiguring the beauty of the city as well as illegally putting up promotional display gate on public roads here.

The company has its city office in Jaydev Vihar locality. The promotional display gates were spotted by a BMC squad in Sahid Nagar that was erected by violating the prescribed guidelines. After a detailed probe, it was ascertained that the company had put up the display gate on December 11.

The squad also lodged an FIR with local police against the company in this regard.

In a similar vein, the civic body slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 each and lodged FIRs against ‘Genix Fertility Care’ in Kharvel Nagar, ‘Annapurna Tent House’ in Jharpada, and ‘Jaydev Academy’ in Sahid Nagar for illegally putting up handbills and banners on trees, walls, and utility poles.

Worth mentioning, on December 11, the BMC slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 (each) on three agencies for illegally putting up ‘TO-LET’ handbills on public space in Nayapalli under this civic limit.
