Odisha: BMC urges denizens to exchange ‘Green Gifts’ this New Year

Bhubaneswar: In an innovative initiative to reduce plastic pollution in Odisha capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged the denizens of the city to exchange ‘Green Gifts’ instead of presents having non-biodegradable stuffs, this new year.

The BMC authorities have appealed the residents of the city to gift plants, books and souvenirs representing local art and crafts so that there will be no need of plastic materials to wrap those, which will subsequently reduce plastic waste disposal.

Officials of the civic body have decided to adopt the practice from new year. “As the new year approaches, it is an earnest appeal to all residents of the Temple City to join hands together and make this ‘Go Green’ campaign a huge success at personal, institutional as well as community levels to add value to the Liveability Index of our city,” BMC Commissioner said.
