Bhubaneswar: The body of a minor girl, who went missing yesterday, was recovered from a well on a farmland in Raighar area of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jharana Gond (16), daughter of Asaram Gond, of Khutugaon village, sources said.

Jharana went missing from their house yesterday evening. The girl’s family failed to trace her despite launching a frantic search, sources added.

Jharana’s body was found floating in a well on a farmland near Khutugaon today morning. On being informed, police with the help of Fire Brigade personnel recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.

A scientific team was called in to assist the police in the investigation.

“The postmortem report will reveal the exact reason behind the girl’s death,” said a police officer.

The girl’s family, meanwhile, alleged that someone might have killed her and dumped her body in the well.
